Postcards from Montana and the Netherlands.

This is from my friend Susan, wishing me a happy birthday.

And this was a fabulous piece of mail from a fellow Postcrosser.
The envelope, which was handmade.

A letter, written on that awesome thin paper.  It contained a quote from Maria Montessori, “Help to do it myself.”

Then the actual postcard, which came from Ikea.  That heart with the map on it is a bookmark.

Look at the back!  So incredibly pretty!

Thanks so much Marja.  I love this.

Postcard from Varna

You are familiar with Varna, Bulgaria, no?  Me neither.  But this postcard leads me to believe it’s great!  Anastasiya is from Sevastopol, Ukraine, but now lives in Varna.  Her three facts:  She likes to travel with her family, she likes to joke and  “I dream to lose my weight.”

Me too, Anastasiya.  But not all of it.  I’d like to keep some.

This was a great postcard, front and back.

Postcard from Las Vegas, Nevada

I love this postcard, only my second in the mail-art category.  Is it not beautiful?  From the number of Postcrossers who request NO mail-art I assumed that I would be receiving a lot of it.  But it has shown itself to be rare, even though my profile says that I love it.

Aside from creatively annotating the stamp, I learned that one of J.D.’s favorite places in the universe is Powell’s Books.  Also that Allen Ginsburg once had to physically move her out of the way because she was blocking the door to the men’s room and also that her favorite movie is Bull Durham. With her favorite line being “don’t THINK. It can only hurt the ball club.”

I kind of think JD and I could be friends.

Postcards from Singapore and Russia

Here is a postcard of an ink and watercolour piece called “Cascade II[iii] from Chaomin who is a 21-year-old from China studying in Singapore.  She’s in Environmental Engineering.

The Russian postcard came with a beautiful envelope.  Less blurry pictures to follow.

Look at the stamps!  And the cancellations!

And the drawing on the front!

Here is the postcard from Nina.  I am the first Postcrossing person she sent a postcard to.  So exciting!  She is a teacher in a secondary school and she likes her work, reports that the school year will begin in two days.  Her favorite quote, which she wrote out and translated for me is:  You are rich when you don’t need anything, not when you have many things (much money).

It was a very cool mail day.
