Society says it’s okay for this guy to have this bumper sticker.

Let us bypass the obvious, that this guy is a jerk and not worth anyone’s time.  Let us move on to the implications of a man who is not called out for putting this bumper sticker on his truck.

If you replace “fat chicks” with any other type of group, this becomes a bumper sticker that isn’t okay.  Why hasn’t there been a confrontation, a general hue and cry?

A bevy of postcards from a variety of places

These first three are from regular commentor Sara and I received them early in January.  I think their arrival must have coincided with the snow days and they somehow got lost in the shuffle.  Anyway, I like them a lot, especially the map–I’m a sucker for a map–and the multi-view with the ghostly Oregon Coast lettering.

This is from someone in Germany.  I couldn’t actually read very much of her handwriting. She might feed camels with carrots?

From Pavel in the Czech Republic. In contrast to my German friend, her handwriting was neat as a pin and tiny, so she had a lot to report. Including this quite by Aldous Huxley:  An intellectual is a person who’s found one thing that’s more interesting than sex.

And here’s another postcard from Sara.  It was sent on 1/15/16.  She pointed out that 1+15=16 and it’s always fun when the date is an equation. Anyway, she sent me wishes that my new job countdown was getting smaller.  It was.

Three sentence movie reviews: Carol

carol

There may have been an unfortunate coinciding with my intense need for a nap, but I found this movie to be quite the snooze.*  It didn’t help that Cate Blanchett was playing a hair too close to Diane Wiest in Bullets Over Broadway.** Visually, it was a stunning movie, and perhaps would have been better received, had I not been quite so tired.

Cost: $5.00
Where watched: Hollywood Theater with S. North

*I did fall asleep in a few sections.  My brain was tracking, but my eyes were shut.
**”Don’t Speak!”

Three sentence movie reviews: In the Heart of the Sea

in_the_heart_of_the_sea

This is the movie I picked out so Matt and I could celebrate my new job. It was a long and exhausting week and so we were primed for this story of men who had an even harder time at work than we did.*  Unlike most Ron Howard films,** it didn’t get saggy in the middle, it got saggy at the end.

Cost: free for me
Where watched: Laurelhurst.

*Though in the movie, I was totally rooting for the whales over the men.
**Exception: Rush, which is awesome all the way through.

I really like the above poster, though I had to really look at it to see what the comments were in awe of.  However, let’s be frank about why I watched this movie.  The German poster has put my motivating factor front and center.
