I did some prank phone calling in my mostly straight-arrow youth and so I feel sad that the good girls of today don’t have this outlet any longer. On the plus side, creepy stalkers don’t have the advantage of anonymity any longer, either.

Page one. Done. Many movies watched.
Three sentence movie reviews: Mistress America
Remember how I was crazy about the Gerwig/Baumbach venture Frances Ha and then, after watching more movies with Gerwig, started to question if I really liked her after all? It turns out that when Gerwig & Baumbach come together, they create movies I adore, including this one which is wacky and funny and really does evoke the best of zany comedies like Bringing up Baby. Plus, both female leads are fabulous at what they are doing.
Cost: $8.00
Where watched: Living Room Theater as a reward for making it though the first week of school. I also bought a sandwich and some wine, making this a rather expensive treat.

There was a contest?
My first thought? If we are talking state-wide, there’s not a ton of competition. My second thought? Who would vote for this? Reading the fine print, I see that readers of the Salem Statesman Journal were the voters. And the contest was best of the mid-valley. Which brings me back to my original thought about the lack of competition.
Three sentence movie reviews: Dune
This movie has what can only be described as a hella lot of whisper voiceover. It also has very interesting early CGI effects, and all the things that would now be CGI effects, but back then needed to be actually made are quite interesting too. I did not, however, find it to be an actually interesting movie.*
Cost: free from library
Where watched: at home with Matt, who was aghast I had never seen it.
*So much so, that I forgot to include it in my list. I actually watched this in August and didn’t realize until after I’d closed the August movie books that it was missing.

The fifth summer of my summer reading
City of Roses: floor plan
Floor plans have been posted in the window. Let’s look at what we’ve got.
Too bad they don’t list the square feet. This seems to be a nice studio. Notice it has a place to hang your bike. I wonder if that is built into every unit, or just shows the potential. Also, I don’t know what that thing under the window on the right is.
The Denver is the loft-style one bedroom. I’m interested to know what that partition looking thing is. It’s not a solid wall, but it must be something because the bike rack holder is attached to it.
Here’s the one-bedroom with doors. I wonder if the square footage is bigger for this unit? It seems to pack a lot more into the space. Interesting pass-through closet space.
Notice how the two-bedroom has two bike hooks?
