The lovely Mary, an 80+-year-old volunteer at school, sent me off to my new job with a book and a handmade card made with her photographs. I will miss Mary. And not just because she gives me things.

Have you read the book yet? If so, what do you think of it? I feel like book gift-giving is such a difficult thing to do because it’s so hard to pin down other peoples’ tastes. Are those photos on the card of her own home?
I’m about 2/3 of the way through and am enjoying it. It’s a very smart book. Mary’s a very smart person, though, so I would expect that. The pictures are from her walks about the neighborhood. Like me, she likes to walk around and take pictures of things.
